Kilkenny and Westmeath Stars in the hunt for Player of the Year

The shortlists for the fifth Camogie Association/WGPA Players’ Player of the Year Awards, sponsored by Liberty Insurance have been announced across the three award categories.

The Players’ Player of the Year Awards honour the outstanding achievement of an individual player in the Senior, Intermediate and Premier Junior Championships.

This year’s nominees are as follows:

Senior Player of the Year Shortlist:

Sarah Dervan (Galway), Niamh Kilkenny (Galway), Michelle Quilty (Kilkenny)

Intermediate Player of the Year Shortlist:

Pamela Greville (Westmeath), Dervla Higgins (Galway), Sabrina Larkin (Tipperary)

Junior Player of the Year Shortlist:

Patrice Diggin (Kerry), Sara Murphy (Kerry), Rebecca Noonan (Limerick)

The overall winners will be announced on the night of the 16th annual Camogie All-Stars Awards on October 19th.

Speaking about the announcement Camogie Association President Kathleen Woods said: “The Players’ Player of the Year Awards are unique and prestigious honours for any player as they recognise the esteem in which players are held amongst their peers. This is the fifth year of these awards and the Camogie Association are delighted once again in collaboration with both the WGPA and Liberty Insurance to recognises at a national level the immense contribution of our leading players.”

Speaking on the announcement of this of this year's shortlist, Chairperson of the WGPA Maria Kinsella said: “I want to heartily congratulate all of the players nominated this year. It is well-deserved recognition of the excellent seasons that they had and the contribution that they made to our games. We are delighted to join the Camogie Association and Liberty Insurance again in acknowledging these outstanding players in what was an exceptional season for Camogie.

“The Players’ Player of the Year Award is a special honour for our nominees with unique recognition from their peers. Best wishes to all of the nominees and we hope everyone has a brilliant night of celebrations at the All-Star Awards.”

Speaking in advance of the awards Stuart Trotter, Country Manager, Liberty Insurance said: “We’re delighted to once again sponsor these awards which recognise and celebrate the achievements of this year’s outstanding Camogie players at all levels.

“In addition to the All-Stars Awards, it is important to recognise these outstanding individual performances throughout this year’s Championship as acknowledged by their peers.
