PRESS RELEASE Leinster Camogie Coaching Academy 2023

By lecamogie, Sunday, 22nd January 2023 | 0 comments

As Chairperson of Leinster Camogie I am absolutely delighted to announce the opening of the application process for the second Leinster Camogie Coaching Academy today.

The Leinster Coaching Academy is an excellent opportunity for Camogie coaches across the province to develop and reach their coaching potential. The programme also aims to increase the number and visibility of female coaches active across our various clubs, educational

environments and at intercounty level across the province of Leinster.

The successful participants will be provided with a platform to enhance their coaching journeys, with in person up skilling across various areas of coaching and mentoring in your own environment during and after the programme. I know some of the leading professionals / coaches and ex-players in their areas of expertise will once more be delivering modules during the 2023 Leinster Coaching Academy.

The Leinster Camogie Executive is delighted to support and fund the Leinster Coaching Academy.  I would also like to thank Sabrina Larkin, Leinster Growth & Participation Officer for all her work in planning the 2023 Leinster Coaching Academy.

I look forward to following the progress of the programme and anticipate the coaches who are selected benefit greatly from their involvement and as you will see from the testimonials of Eoghan Stuart and Bernie Corroon, two of the participants from the Inaugural Leinster Coaching Academy.

Linda Kenny,

Chairperson,

Leinster Camogie.

Eoghan Stuart, Naomh Maurs, Dublin

“The course gave a very holistic overview of how to be a coach, on several different levels. I benefitted by seeing the variety of approaches that need to be taken to give girls the tools they need to be the best they can be. I was able to bring them back and communicate them to the Camogie mentors in our club. I also benefitted from being with a group of like-minded enthusiastic Camogie coaches to exchange ideas and thoughts with and now have a network of coaches from around Leinster to exchange ideas with”. I learnt about the need for “enthusiasm and understanding the individual player herself so you know how she can learn and play” along with “how to plan for the year, month, week and session”, with “lots of technical pointers also”. My advice to anyone thinking of applying for 2023 would be “be prepared to bring the ideas back to your club, so the whole club can benefit from the learnings”.

Bernie Corroon - Clonkill, Westmeath

“I am a Games Development Administrator working with the GAA in Westmeath. I have attended and delivered many workshops but really feel that this one was special.

The blended learning and array of areas which we delved into made the course very insightful and the extra knowledge gained, invaluable. The group got along so well together, always on hand to help each other, share experiences and enlighten one another. To have such a tight core group made it hugely enjoyable to attend.

The tutors were excellent; we always came home with new content which was easy to apply each and every day. The structure of the academy always allowed for ease of learning, with such a small group and the manner in which the tutors delivered.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in Camogie and up skilling themselves to join the second year of the Leinster Coaching Academy. It is a different experience than just doing a course or a workshop, Leinster Camogie have set up a very personal approach, where every member was valuable. Your journey as a coach will be supported and no stone left unturned.
