REPORT : 2020 AIB Leinster Club Junior B Final

By lecamogie Sunday, 5th December 2021 | 0 comments
Report Drumnraney and Knockananna met this fresh and dry winter afternoon for the 2020 AIB Leinster Club Junior B Final at the pristine grounds of the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown. Due to the clash of colours each team donned their county colours; Drumraney in the Westmeath jerseys and Knockananna in the Wicklow jerseys. As the game got underway, Knockananna were quick to assert their dominance with a few balls that just slipped wide of the posts. Their efforts were rewarded when player of the match Rachel Byrne struck the sliotar from just outside the 45 and sent it all the way to the back of the net. A beautiful piece of play in which Áine Lynn sent a high ball from a free into a cluster of Drumraney full forwards resulted in a goal for the Westmeath side. Laura Hogan who wore the number 12 jersey for Knockananna put in an immense effort along the wing, picking up the sliotar and sending it into her full forwards. Áine Byrne the Knockananna full back kept the Drumraney forwards out of the danger zone whilst Rachel Byrne put another 2 points on the board for her team. Linked play from the Drumraney captain Chloe Butler to Chloe Moran led to a well-deserved point. Only 2 points separated the teams at half time, the scoreboard reading Drumraney 1-01 to Knockananna 1-03. The first score of the second half didn’t come until the eleventh minute after some very tense battling, Sarah Byrne passed the ball into Rachel Byrne who put it over the bar with ease. After a handful more of Knockananna points, Áine Lynn raised her team’s heads by slotting the ball between the posts from a free twice. Aimee Duncan had an excellent game, continuously sweeping at the Drumraney half back line and clearing the sliotar. Points from Rachel Byrne, Sarah Byrne, Laura Hogan and captain Shannagh Goetelen secured the win for the Knockananna girls. Knockananna finished on a high with a goal that was flicked in by Róisín Byrne. The scoreboard finishing up reflected harshly on Drumraney, the effort they put in was phenomenal. The final score was Drumraney 1-04 to Knockananna 2-12 resulting in Knockananna captain Shannagh Goetelen lifting the Leinster trophy. Rachel Byrne was the deserving player of the match with a personal tally of 1-08 for Knockananna. Report by PRO Og Grainne Hogan Photo Credit: iLivephotos.com

A message from Leinster Participation and Growth Co-ordinator Sabrina Larkin

Information from Sabrina Larkin Leinster Participation and Growth Co-ordinator The Camogie Association Hi All, As you may be aware, the Leinster Junior Novice school's initiative was making headway in 2019/20 prior to Covid bringing school camogie to a halt nationally. This initiative is an important part of my own workplan within Leinster in increasing player numbers within the schools of the province and it is encouraging now to be able to get back to hopefully planning, running and building on the Junior Novice Secondary School Initiative. Over the past 2 months I've been getting a good bit of interaction with teachers from the various schools who were engaged in the past in building camogie and hopefully we are at a point that extra-curricular games are back on the radar. I have sent out an email to all my teacher contacts from schools who don't yet compete in Leinster Post Primary competition. This was to invite them to get back involved in camogie (based on public health restrictions etc) with the following proposed: Junior Novice Sec School Blitz Series 2021/22 A series of 5 blitz dates running around the province from November to February Open to all schools not competing in Leinster Post Primary competition Schools can attend as many or as few as they wish. A final day in Mid February with school prizes up for grabs 1st-4th years only Games 7 a side (panels of 10/12) North and South Leinster Development League 2022 I would look to then put the opportunity to you all to continue on and enter a North Leinster and South Leinster Development League to build more regular game time. 2 geographical divisions to avoid excess travel Run March - May Played at 10 or 12 a side Fixtures and admin created and sent by myself Teacher led with regards to arranging suitable times for their games with the opponents, ref, venue etc. Final day held based on league table How You Can Help Take a look and make yourself familar with at the attached excel file. This is the school list, colour coded to those who are playing in Leinster Post Primary (green - not emailed) and those who are not and have previously engaged with development blitzes etc (peach) All the additional info (proposed locations etc) is within the online form as per link below - if any questions. I would greatly appreciate if you could help me in promoting this initiative to the secondary schools in your respective counties that may it be of interested and suited to.
